Chaffin Looking to Repeat "One Day Show" Success at Richmond
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

  Discuss

One-Day Show: “If the truck isn’t running well, I prefer to have the Happy Hour practice and then race the following day. It gives Crew Chief Kip McCord and I time to sort some things out. If you unload and the truck is really fast, then you like the one-day shows because it doesn’t give everybody else a chance to catch up. We’ve had some success with the one-day show format this year. We ran one-day shows at IRP and Milwaukee and we finished first and second (respectively). At Nashville, even though it was a two-day show, it was run like a one-day event. We didn’t have a Happy Hour and we struggled a little bit there. So it just depends on how you’re running as to whether you will be fast or not.  I think it’s harder on the crews than it is the driver doing everything in one day. They have to work all day to get the Dickies Dodge ready to race and then be fast on pit road that night. As for the driver, I don’t have a real preference.”

Points Racing: “I think I point’s race a little more than Bobby does. Obviously, my sixth place in points is not as solid as his first, but I don’t plan to stay in sixth place long. We went into Bristol last week sitting third in points.  At a place like that, you never know what’s going to happen during the race. So much happens that’s out of your control and that is exactly what bit us. That one bad finish dropped us in the points and now we have to climb back up. We’re not in the top 10 by accident. I don’t feel like this team is a fluke. I know we can climb back up to third and even move into second, but we are going to have to stay focused each week. I am so proud of where BHR is and am confident we can finish 1-2 in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points championship.”

Notes:

  • Chad is racing Rambo this week at Richmond.  It is a brand new in-house chassis from BHR that Chaffin drove to a 12th place finish at Nashville.
  • Richmond is the home of Chaffin’s best career NASCAR Busch Series finish. He finished ninth in 1999 with Team LEAR.
  • Crew Chief Kip McCord has won several NBS races at Richmond International Raceway, including BHR teammate Bobby Hamilton’s only NBS win.

Richmond Preview: “Richmond is an exciting race track and I love racing there. Kip and I both have had some success there and that helps our confidence level going in. Richmond is a fast track and pretty easy to drive. I feel like our truck is going to be really good because we ran well at the similar tracks of Milwaukee and won IRP. It is a great track for us to gain some ground in the championship standings. It is easy to get down after a race like we had in Bristol, but I have told the guys to remember it was just three races ago we won in IRP. You have to stay positive and focused. Richmond is a great track for us to redeem ourselves and get back into victory lane.”
