Edwards Closing in On Truck Championship

With his win last week at Bristol Motor Speedway, Carl Edwards made up some ground in the championship hunt in the Craftsman Truck Series.  Edwards gained 58 points on the leader and is now only 146 points out of first place with nine races remaining.  He and the entire No. 99 Superchips team are dedicated to winning Roush's second truck championship.

"That win in Bristol really helped us in the points," Edwards said. "Winning the championship is going to be a very difficult task, but I know we can do it.  Bobby Hamilton and Dennis Setzer have had great seasons so far and they've got a lot of laps on me.  I'm hoping that running all of these Nextel Cup races will help me to be a little bit better.  Hopefully my curve catches up and some breaks go our way."

The 204-point deficit Edwards had going into Bristol was as far back in the points as he had been all season.  His win combined with a 12th-place finish by Hamilton, a 16th-place finish by Setzer and a 29th-place finish by Chad Chaffin at Bristol moved him back into third place in the points.

"There is so much competition in the Craftsman Truck Series," Edwards said.  "It's anybody's championship at this point.  A lot can happen with nine races to go, especially with tracks like Richmond, Martinsville and Darlington still ahead of us.  It's going to be a fight all the way to the final race in Homestead."
