Chad Chaffin Hopes to Keep the Streak Alive
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

  Discuss

Gateway: “Gateway is an unusual track.  It looks like it was built to fit the exact available acreage there.  They squeezed it in between the drag strip and the interstate.  The front and back straightaway is really long, which causes us to shift from third gear to fourth gear when we run through there.  It has narrow, sweeping corners.  I feel good about our chances at Gateway.  The Joey Arrington motors are running great and I know I will have a fast truck.  My team has been doing an awesome job of having the truck prepared for race day.  We are going with the intention of winning, but I would be thrilled with a top-five finish to keep our streak going.”

The Streak: “We currently have a streak of six consecutive top-10 finishes.  The Dickies Racing Team has the longest top-10 streak going in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series right now.  I know it’s not a very long streak, but it is important to us.  We are very focused right now.  I am happy with where we are, but not satisfied.  We want to get better every week and win more races. This past week the Dickies Dodge finished fifth and I was very pleased with another top five.  However, this week we want to figure out how to win or finish second.  We want more of those finishes.  With the results we’ve seen in the past few races, I think we are headed in the right direction.”

Green-White-Checkered Finishes: “I don’t have a problem with the green-white-checkered flag finishes.  I have lost spots doing it and I’ve gained spots doing it.  It’s a part of our sport that makes us unique from the other two NASCAR premier series.  I don’t care how the race ends as long as it ends under green-flag conditions.  The race fans who pay all this money for tickets and travel to watch races deserve that.  So whether they end under green-white-checkered flag finish or just run five green flag laps after the caution, either way doesn’t matter to me.”

Notes:

  • Chad is racing Butthead this weekend in Kentucky.  He raced this particular truck in Mansfield (31), Memphis (9) and Milwaukee (2).
  • Chaffin has finished in the top 10 six weeks in a row.
  • On tracks one mile or larger this year, Chaffin’s average finish is ninth.

Camouflage: “I enjoy driving the camouflage paint scheme.  It is good for our sponsors.  I think our initial Dickies paint scheme is the neatest looking truck out there and this one just adds to that.  Dickies really wants to push its camouflage wear for the fall and I’m thrilled they chose us as an outlet to promote it.  It’s fun to do different things throughout the season.  The paint scheme does not affect my driving ability or how I race, but it is fun for our sponsor and something different for the fans.  I am proud to be associated with a sponsor who is willing to try different and unique things.  It keeps it interesting.”
