NOTES AND QUOTES
This year the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will race at The Milwaukee Mile at night for the first time. Most teams have set-up notes based on racing in the heat of the afternoon. This time everyone will need to start from scratch. Carl Edwards believes that should make for a very interesting race.
"This is going to be interesting for two reasons," Edwards said. "We tested at Milwaukee back in May, but we did not test with the cambered rear-end that we have now, and we didn't test at night. We've never run at night there before, so I think everyone is going to be playing a guessing game about how the track will change. Pit strategy will be an important part of this race because making the right adjustments is going to be a big deal."
Edwards will race chassis #27, which is the same truck the team took to Martinsville and Dover. However, it is not the same truck they tested at Milwaukee last month.
"The truck we tested got a little banged up last weekend at Memphis," Edwards said. "We planned to take the truck we tested, but we had to go to 'Plan B' when we saw what it looked like after the race. We got away with taking the same truck to Memphis and Milwaukee last year, so the odds were probably against us to pull it off twice.
"We spent a lot of time at the test working on spring and shock combinations. What we learned will apply to any truck we bring. It was a productive test and we made quite a bit of progress on our flat-track program."
Edwards had a tough race at Milwaukee last year. He was running in the top 10 for much of the race until he lost a cylinder around lap 125. He began to drop back, but hoped to stay on the lead lap. Those hopes were dashed on lap 162 when he came into the pits with a flat left-front tire.
"I really like racing at Milwaukee, but I've never had a great race there," Edwards said. "The first time I ran there in 2002 we blew up and we had several problems last year. Hopefully this will be our year to do well."
