Reutimann Disappointed With 17th At Dover
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

Even though a Top-10 effort evaded David Reutimann in his first attempt at Dover International Speedway, the Raybestos Rookie had a strong showing in the No. 17 NTN Bearings Toyota before being relegated to a seventeenth-place finish in the MBNA America 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event.

“The upside is that we had a really good run going, but the finish is just too hard for me to take,” said Reutimann. “This No. 17 NTN Bearings Toyota was easily capable of a Top-10 finish. It’s just really frustrating because I want to do well for the guys, our manufacturer and our sponsor.”

Maintaining seventh-place from Lap 66 to Lap 139, Reutimann battled a tight handling truck exiting Dover International Speedway’s corners. While Reutimann dove to pit road for four tires and adjustments under green at Lap 139, misfortune struck as NASCAR ruled the No. 17 NTN Bearings truck slightly overshot the pit box.

“We were barely out of the box,” said Reutimann. “It’s something I’m going to dwell on for a long time because it cost us time and broke our concentration. I can deal with a lot of stuff that’s out of my control, but this is something that it will take me a while to get over.”

While making up lost ground, a costly caution occurred at Lap 152 catching Reutimann and the majority of the field one lap down. Only four trucks – No. 18, No. 14, No. 21, and No. 52 - remained on the lead lap during that time.

“We pretty much all got caught a lap down on that deal,” said Reutimann. “There was nothing we could do about it. We had to come in and make adjustments. We were wicked loose early on. Near the end we were tight exiting the corners.”

As the Raybestos Rookie finished 17th one lap down, ten out of the 35-truck field finished on the lead lap with Chad Chaffin as eventual winner. Reutimann is currently 12th in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points standings with Dennis Setzer shown in first after six events. Next up on the 25-race schedule, Reutimann and the Darrell Waltrip Motorsports team prepare to tackle Texas Motor Speedway.

“I’m really looking forward to going to Texas this week because I ran well there last season in the No. 87 NEMCO Motorsports Busch car,” said Reutimann. “We started ninth and had a good run going, but we were caught up in an accident with ten laps to go. Because I've ran well there, I’m really excited about running the No. 17 NTN Bearings Toyota at Texas with Darrell Waltrip Motorsports."

Live coverage of the 167-Lap race at Texas Motor Speedway is scheduled Friday, June 11th at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The 250.5-mile event is slated to air live on SPEED Channel. MRN Radio will broadcast the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series schedule events.
