Houston's Luck Goes From Bad To Worse at Lowe's
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

Andy Houston's unfortunate string of bad luck continued Friday night as his Team ASE/CARQUEST Dodge was involved in an early race restart skirmish on lap 20. The incident resulted in significant aerodynamic front end damage for Houston's Ultra Motorsports entry, virtually eliminating Houston as a serious contender in the Infineon 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

"We just can't seem to catch a break right now," Houston said after the 134 lap event. "The restarts were jumbled up all night. On the restart where we sustained the damage, all the trucks in front of me starting stacking up and there was just nowhere to go. It is disappointing for this team and for our sponsors Team ASE and CARQUEST because we had such high hopes coming in here. We certainly thought that we could come in here and grab some momentum but it just wasn't our night."

Houston started the event in the 21st spot. He expertly dodged a bullet early on when he narrowly missed the spinning truck of Robert Huffman on lap 4. Another caution flag fell on lap 15 setting up the restart on lap 20 that brought Houston's high hopes swiftly crashing down. Houston made numerous pit stops after the incident while his Team ASE/CARQUEST Dodge crew attempted to fix the damage. Unable to make consequential aerodynamic changes to the dramatically altered front end, crew chief Dennis Connor gave Houston all the help he possibly could with a series of chassis adjustments designed to help free up Houston's Dodge. In the end, neither Houston nor his crew could overcome the results of the front end damage and Houston took the checkered flag in the 19th position.

"After the front end was damaged we just couldn't get the truck where it needed to be," Houston claimed. "Aerodynamically it was just not sound. The guys did everything possible to try and fix it and they gave me all the help they possibly could. There was only so much they could do to make it better and they never gave up. We were just unable to get back to where we needed to be to make this Team ASE/CARQUEST Dodge as competitive as it needed to be at the end."

Dennis Setzer passed Carl Edwards late in the race to win his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race of the season and he maintains his stronghold on the NCTS points lead. Andy Houston currently sits in the 18th position in the NCTS driver's standings. The next event for the series will be Friday June 4th in Dover, DE. That race will be broadcast nationally by the Speed Channel, MRN Radio and XM Satellite Radio at 4:00pm ET.
