Engine Woes Spoil Top-5 Run For Reutimann

Running fifth during Lap 68 at Lowe's Motor Speedway, David Reutimann’s momentum came to an abrupt halt when the No. 17 NTN Bearings Toyota Tundra incurred engine problems forcing him out of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race. Reutimann finished 36th in the 134-lap event.

“I think something internal there in the motor broke,” said Reutimann. “I can’t complain because TRD has been giving us awesome motors all year. In a new program you are going to have failures, but I didn’t want to be that guy. You are going to have that, but they will give me a great piece the next time we go race. They told me that it was the first Toyota engine lost in over 8,000 racing miles.”

After a routine pit stop for four tires and no adjustments to the No. 17 NTN Bearings machine at Lap 33, Reutimann slid into the Top-10 seven laps later.

“The NTN Bearings truck was awesome,” said Reutimann. “Jason Overstreet and Bobby Kennedy gave me a super truck. We didn’t touch one bolt from the time the race started until now. I couldn’t ask for the NTN Bearings truck to drive any better. I said five laps into the race that if this things stays like this, we are going to be really good. We would have been there at the end, but I guess it's just one of those racing deals. ”

Starting from 24th and eclipsing the Top-5 by Lap 66, Reutimann continues to leave a lasting impression.

“We are very pleased with Reutimann,” said Kennedy. “This is a tough place to run especially as a rookie. He’s awesome. He had the fastest times out of anybody out there. It’s just bad luck that the motor let go. It’s a shame because we all live in this area and we wanted to shine here at home. David was definitely doing it here tonight.”

Reutimann dropped from third to tenth in the 2004 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points standings, 184 markers out of first.

Live coverage of the MBNA America 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at Dover International Speedway is scheduled Friday, June 4th at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The 200-mile event is slated to air live on SPEED Channel. MRN Radio will broadcast the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series schedule events.
