Square D and Southern Living Idea House Team Up in Charlotte
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

Southern Living Idea House: The Square D Dodge will run with the Southern Living Idea House logo on the deck lid at Charlotte on May 21 prior to the opening of the 2004 Idea House in Panama City on June 5.

"This is a great opportunity to help launch the Southern Living Idea House, which features Square D electrical distribution and structured wiring products," said Rob Laub, Director of National Accounts for Schneider Electric, parent company of Square D. "Between Square D,Southern Living and NASCAR, there's an incredible amount of tradition and brand equity, and we're pleased to be tying the three together this weekend in Charlotte."

In addition to the decal on the truck for the Charlotte race, Square D and Southern Living will partner to present an Honorary Pit Crew Member Sweepstakes in conjunction with the 2004 Idea House. The winner will be an honorary pit crew member for the Square D Dodge at the Homestead race. To enter, log on to www.SouthernLiving.com/Square D. The Idea House is open through September 26.

Motivator: “I went last week to a Square D facility in Smyrna, Tenn. They asked me to give a speech on motivation. I took some time to think about what I was going to say and realized the best story I could tell is one I learned the hard way. One time when I drove for Richard Petty I really got into it with my Crew Chief at the time Robbie Loomis. We were fussing back and forth and I was pointing my finger at him. Richard came up to us out of nowhere and grabbed my finger. Well when Mr. Petty does that, you freeze and listen to what is next. He said I don’t want you to move your hand once I let go and then he turned my finger loose. Then he asked me, ‘How many fingers are pointing back at you?’ I looked down and saw the other three fingers pointing in my direction. Then it made me think about taking my share of the blame. From that point on, Robbie and I had the greatest relationship. It taught me something I use in my business everyday and every opportunity I get to share it, I tell that story.”

Notes: The truck Bobby is racing in Charlotte is Beavis. It is the same truck Hamilton won with in Atlanta.

Moving: “We are in the process of moving things here and there over to the new shop. It’s going to be pretty hectic once Charlotte is over because we need to be moved out of the current shop by June 1st. We’ve moved the plates and some of the big stuff, but it will be the little things that will cost us a lot of time. I really dread the moving part, but I am looking forward to all the up-to-date things the new shop has in it. I’ve got a good group of guys who are willing to put in the extra time to get us moved over there. I’m thinking it’s going to take each and every one us to do it in the timeframe we are looking at. I’m just glad we have an off weekend coming up. This wouldn’t have been as smooth had we been racing the Nextel Cup schedule.”

Green-White-Checkered Finishes: “I’m a believer that all three of NASCAR’s Series should be the same when it comes to rules and finishes. If the Craftsman Truck Series is finishing with the green-white-checkered-flag rule, then the others should already be doing the same thing. I think there needs to be consistency when we are all under the same umbrella. I don’t like the shootout endings. It leads for crazy reckless driving for one spot, and that can turn a good day into a bad one quick.”
