NOTES AND QUOTES
Carl Edwards did not get the result he was hoping for earlier this week in Mansfield after getting caught in a multi-truck accident toward the end of the race. This week, however, is a new race with almost a new truck. The team is taking the same truck that won at Daytona in February (chassis 23), but with a few new additions to it.
"I was testing our Charlotte truck at Chicago about two weeks ago and blew a right-rear tire going full speed into turn one," Edwards said. "I backed it square into the wall, so it required a new rear clip. I saw it at the shop this morning and it looks like nothing ever happened to it. The guys worked so hard to repair this truck in about a week. It's almost like they rewound time and it never happened. And as if that weren't good enough, we found a few things during testing that we figured would make us even faster and since we had to do so much work to the truck we were able to incorporate those changes. I'm pretty excited about racing there this weekend."
Edwards has only raced at Lowe's Motor Speedway once, but his memory of the track goes back long before his debut there in 2003.
"I remember Lowe's was the first big speedway I had ever seen," Edwards said. "I was just a kid then and I was here visiting (Ken) Schrader. He took me out there back when they were just building the turn three tunnel and I was absolutely amazed. I had never seen anything like it having only been around dirt tracks. Back then I never dreamed I'd race there some day, so having a chance to compete in the truck race there is pretty special."
Edwards finished 12th in the inaugural event last year. He ran up front early in the event, but as the night went on the truck became very loose and he fell back.
"Finishing 12th last year felt like a victory considering how loose the truck was," said Edwards. "This year I think we can greatly improve on that and have a good shot at winning it. We've got everything we need including the truck and the team to get the job done."
