NOTES AND QUOTES
Every driver has a few tracks where they are anxious to race again because they had a poor result the last time and they know they can do better. Lowe's Motor Speedway is one of those tracks for Jon Wood. Last year he ran as high as second place early in the race, but by the end of the race the truck was so unexplainably loose that he spun out with 32 laps to go. Once he fell to the back, then he was caught up in an accident on the final lap and was unable to finish the race.
"Last year we had a truck capable of a top-five finish at Charlotte," Wood said. "That was a huge disappointment to run that well early in the race and end up so far back. I've been waiting to get back to Charlotte for the past year so I could prove that we can do better than that. This week I finally get the chance."
Wood will be driving a brand new truck (chassis 36) this weekend. It has never even been tested and was just finished last week. It is Wood's second new truck of the year with a Roush-built chassis. The other new truck was the one he raced at Martinsville and Mansfield.
"I'm excited to be getting new trucks this year," Wood said. "Last year we raced the entire season using trucks with new bodies, but older chassis. I really like the first truck we got and hopefully this new truck will help us improve our performance at Charlotte."
Despite the top-10 finish at Mansfield on Sunday, Wood dropped one place in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series point standings to 11th. Although he lost one spot, he is only 14 points out of seventh, and 100 points out of first place.
"We've finished in the top 10 in three of our four races this year," Wood said. "Unfortunately we had a bad run at Atlanta, but there were a lot of teams that had a tough day in Mansfield. We lost a spot in the points, but we made up some ground over the guys ahead of us. I know this team will do everything they can to give me trucks capable of running in the top five or 10 every week. As long as we stay up front, it won't be long before we'll be in a position to win another race."
