The track may have strained under the pressure of this weekend’s racing at Martinsville, but the drivers kept their cool, and the WIX Filters Lap Leader Award found its way to two new winners for this season. WIX Filters is the No. 1 filter in NASCAR and an exclusive NASCAR Performance Product and is the proud sponsor of NASCAR’s newest contingency award.
Jeff Gordon, driver of the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet, won his first WIX Filters Lap Leader Award. Gordon drove away with a check for $5,000 for leading the most laps during Sunday’s Advance Auto Parts 500.
Jack Sprague, driver of the No. 16 Chevy Trucks Chevrolet, led the most laps in the Craftsman Truck Series Kroger 250 and received $1,500 for his efforts.
Since there was no Busch Series race this past weekend, the next WIX Filters Lap Leader award for that series will be named after the 1-800-PIT-SHOP.com 300 on May 1 at the California Speedway.
For each event within the three racing divisions – NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series – WIX Filters will present the driver who leads the most laps of each race with the WIX Filters Lap Leader Award.
This prestigious award includes cash payouts which will be presented during pre-race ceremonies at each event, as well as a year end payout and stately trophy for the driver who leads the most races with the most laps for each series.
In order to be eligible for the WIX Filters Lap Leader Award for a single event, drivers and teams in each series must run the WIX Filters decal on the front fender, and use WIX Racing Oil or Air Filters in their vehicles. Additionally, for any year-end payout, teams must run the decal on the front fender for every race they participate in, with an allowance for one race, and they must always use WIX Racing Oil or Air Filters.
