Roush Racing teammates Jon Wood and Carl Edwards enjoyed a good run at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday in the Kroger 250. Wood finished fourth for his first top-five finish of the season, and Edwards was sixth which gave him his third top-10 finish in only three starts this season. The strong finishes especially helped both drivers in the point standings. Edwards reclaimed the lead with a 22-point margin over Travis Kvapil. Wood moved up to 10th, gaining four positions.
"It sure feels good to be back in the lead, although we’re only three races into the season,” said Edwards, driver of the No. 99 Superchips Ford. “We’ve got another three weeks off before our race in Mansfield, so at least we are guaranteed to be the point leaders for another three weeks.
“We need to continue doing what we are doing. We need to have consistent finishes. That is exactly how Travis won it last year and we hope to do the same this year.”
“We had a terrible run in Atlanta last month that hurt us in the points,” said Wood, driver of the No. 50 Roush Racing F-150. “We needed this top five to not only boost our confidence, but also to boost us back up in the points and help our sponsorship search. We’re really looking forward to Mansfield next month since it’s another short track and that is where I have the most fun racing.
“We are back in the top 10 in the points and we’re only 98 points out of first place. Another good run in Mansfield next month should put us back up where we need to be.”
