Leading Last Spring: "We ran really good there in the spring last year.  We had a chance to win the race.  Dennis Setzer passed us and we raced each other hard, but clean.  With three laps to go, we ran out of fuel.  So we had a good truck for that race and showed our hand.  That just goes to show, if the truck is right then it makes the driver look like the hero.  I know my teammate (Bobby Hamilton) will be strong this weekend because he is one of the best on the track.  Our trucks are very good and our setups are right on now.  So we will be one of the teams to beat."    

Commanding A Race: "We inherited the second-place spot in last year's race when the others behind us pitted, but we had a great truck and were able to stay out front.  When you are in the lead and you have the chance to finish first or second, especially when you haven't been in the position before, you have to go for it.  That was my first time to really have command of a race.  I've led laps and I've sat on poles, but to really have command of a race that was it.  It probably impaired our judgement a little bit when we stayed out and should have come in.  We would have relinquished the lead then and that would have been the right thing to do, as it turned out.  Had we been lucky and run three or four more laps, which at Martinsville it might have been just one gallon of gas, we would have been heros if we won the race."

Paper Clip: “The thing about Martinsville is it is not an oval, it is a paper clip.  The straightaways are so long.  Even though Martinsville is banked, the corners are so sharp that you don't feel the banking.  So what you have to do is go so fast down the straightaways then you have to back off early, get the truck set, get on the brakes and then back off the brakes.  You roll through the middle and then pick up the throttle.  Forward bite is important at Martinsville because you go so slow through he corners it's hard to get going without spinning the tires.  Then the straightaways are so long, you get going so fast you can hardly get it slowed down to go into the next corner.  It's a finesse track, you can't attack it.  You have to use a lot of finesse, that is why Bobby is so good there.  You have to be easy on your tires, your brakes and the throttle.  So when everything is right, it’s easy to drive.  When it is not right, it is hard to have finesse when you are behind and you are trying to catch up." 
 
Notes:  Chaffin is driving the Dodge Ram called Beavis this weekend. He inherited the truck from Hamilton, who won in it last year at Darlington.  Chaffin will be appearing for Dickies fans at Kmart located at 2876 Greensboro Road in Martinsville, VA from 4–6pm on Thursday April 15.  

Stiff Competition: "The biggest competition so far, in only the first two races, is Bobby Hamilton.  It's going to sound like I'm praising truck owner, but it is the honest truth.  At Daytona Bobby was the guy to beat, but bad luck took him out.  Our Dickies Dodge was good until we sustained a little damage.  We struggled a little bit with our chassis setup, but we were a top 10 truck easily.  Bobby was clearly the guy to beat in Atlanta again.  Overall right now the Toyotas are really strong and they've showed it.  When I look at the whole package though, the vehicle, the driver, and everything, I think the Square D Dodge is the truck to beat.  That is prejudice for me to say that, but it also ups the ante for the Dickies Dodge.  Now we have to get on the stick to keep up with the boss.  If he is going to be the guy to beat every week, then there is no reason why we shouldn’t be nipping on his heels every time.  It's our challenge.  Our pit crew needs to be a little quicker, I have to get up on the wheel and compete smarter.  We are capable of doing that."
