David Starr Ready For a Strong Run at Daytona
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

  Discuss

Armed with a brand new, tough running Spears Motorsports Chevy truck, a highly skilled crew and a positive winning attitude, David Starr is ready to thunder his way to a top finish at Daytona International Speedway, Friday evening, February 13th.

"This is the first of 25 events in this year's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series," explains Starr. "And, the first race of the season is always exciting. It is the one and only time of the year, when everyone is on the same page. No one has any points. You don't have to worry about catching up, so you can focus all your energy into running up front. Daytona is pretty much an animal unto itself. You have to really keep your foot on the floor and your eyes on the competition. It's fast and exciting and the fans love it. To make it even better, this year we will be running under the lights for the first time. Daytona also tends to set the tone for the season. Last year we got hit and crashed in the second lap. It was a bad luck break and the rest of the season pretty much went the same way. The year before (2002) we finished 7th and continued on to end the season in 5th place. We're looking to set that tone again and feel we are ready for a great year."

In his third full year of Craftsman Truck Racing, Starr and everyone at Spears Motorsports knows precisely what it takes to win. "This year, for the first time, we are a Chevrolet-backed team, continues Starr. "And, I really think that getting both wind tunnel time and engineering support will certainly help to give us that extra edge that is so very important. There is nothing that would please me more than to present Chevrolet with their first Craftsman Truck victory in 2004. Being part of their team is a great honor and obviously the way to repay them is by winning. It was a Ford that took Daytona last year, this time it needs to be a Chevrolet."

One of the most competitive series in America today, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series offers fans unparalleled racing action from start to finish. "This year, from the looks of things, the competition is going to be tougher than ever before," says Starr. "The number of drivers who are definitely capable of taking the Checkered at each race is pretty mind staggering. Every event is going to be a full on battle."

Extremely talented behind the wheel, there is no doubt that Starr can do exactly what he sets out to do. In his years of racing, he has proven himself time and time again. And, with a little old fashioned luck, this coming season should be one of the best of his career.

"I definitely have a good feeling about this year," sums up Starr, who also plans to contest fifteen NASCAR Busch Races for Holigan Racing. "Racing is my passion and the more I race, the happier I am. I'm definitely ready for the season to start. All I need is for the Green Flag to drop."
