Overall Shane Hmiel was pleased about his performance in Atlanta. “It was a great Chevy overall, we were aerotight at the start. Richie made some adjustments on the first pit that worked.”
“It’s one of the best cars I’ve driven on this track. I wasn’t smooth enough for the throttle coming off that last restart. I spun the tires and Carl had nowhere to go.” Hmiel was speaking of to the restart on lap 120 he spun the tires and got rear quarter panel damage from Carl Edwards.
“This series is just great racing to the last lap. I was inside of Matt and I saw Mike Skinner spin and had to let off” Hmiel referring to coming to the checkered flag when he was under Matt Crafton trying to advance to a 5th place finish.
“It was an exciting race. I’m glad at how much we’ve improved since Daytona. Richie and the guys at the shop gave me a great truck. We’re one of only a few of independent teams not factory backed and it feels great to run up front with some of the best big name teams in the series.” \
“The power was incredible. I was fast and felt like one of the best trucks out there with that DEI engine.”
“I wanted to have a good race for all the sponsors, Earl Small’s Harley Davidson, Spondivits, D&D Aviation, Orange County Orlando Auto Auction and Chase Wireless who helped us here and in Daytona.” A majority of Hmiel’s sponsors are based in the Atlanta Metro area, as well as, truck owner Billy Ballew.
“We lead in Daytona and got the handle back here at Atlanta and within the next race or two we’ll be back winning.” Hmiel ended with a 6th place finish and is in 6th place in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Standings.
