| Reutimann Rookie of Race at Atlanta Speedway 03-13-2004 | TruckSeries.com Report
Reutimann finished third, the first top-five finish by a Raybestos Rookie this season. He also led the race once for seven laps, the first laps led by a Raybestos Rookie in 2004. His first career top-five finish in the Craftsman Truck Series comes in his second career start. Reutimann has two top-10 finishes in two races this season (he finished ninth at Daytona). HOW ABOUT THE RACING IN THE TRUCK SERIES? "It's awesome. I think the fans definitely got their money's worth. In the middle of the race I'm thinking 'Wow, this is kind of getting strung out a little bit here' but at the end I was wishing it was still strung out, that's for sure. I had a lot of fun and I hope we can come back." THIS IS YOUR FIRST CAREER TOP-FIVE. "The truck was great, it was awesome. When you get to drive equipment like this it makes my job a lot easier and I'm learning. I learned a lot out there today so when we come back we'll be that much better. I've got to thank NTN and Toyota; their motor program is awesome. We got some big smoke under the hood and I look forward to going back to some big tracks. I'm looking forward to some short tracks, too." WHAT DID DARRELL WALTRIP TELL YOU AFTER THE RACE? "He was real happy. He said that we did what we needed to do. At the end we weren't quite as good. I think that maybe we were a little bit better on a long run in some areas and some areas we weren't. This would be a great dirt track, too . It's got a top, it's got a bottom, and I had a ball. I really hope we get an opportunity to come back here next year." YOU RAN IN THE TOP-FIVE ALL DAY. "It's not so much me, it's the guys I've got working on the stuff. They haven't had a day off in I don't know when. It's a great effort. When you've got a group like I've got, this is the caliber of team that can win championships. Now whether the driver can do it or not we'll see but this is a great team and I'm just lucky I get to drive their stuff. It was fun. I wish we could go again . We had a great day other than me trying to knock the wall down coming off four there that one time. I kind of knocked stuff out of line and kind of hurt us a little bit in the end but a great effort for NTN Bearing and Toyota. I enjoyed it. DW didn't yell at me too much on the radio today so I think I'm heading in the right direction. It was a lot of fun. I learned a ton." DID THE LAST CAUTION WORK TO YOUR ADVANTAGE? "It started to get a little bit better on the longer run. It gave us a chance to cool the tires down. The problem is that you've got a guy on the bottom and a guy on the top and I tried to run right in the middle and it probably wasn't my brightest move. I probably should have picked one line and went with it. It was fun. I wanted to win. That's what probably got me in trouble at Daytona: I didn't want to ride in line and that got me in trouble. Here you could get out of line and it didn't hurt you. It's the most fun I've had in a long time." YOU HAD QUITE A VIEW ON THE LAST LAP. "Those guys were going at it tooth and nail and neither one of them was going to give an inch and they were beating and banging. I seen Skinner starting to loose it and I just kept my foot to the floor, hoping to beat him across the line. I looked out the window as I came by and he was still sideways in front of us. It was a great finish and I had the best seat in the house." WHAT WAS THAT LIKE FROM YOUR VANTAGE POINT? "Skinner is not going to give an inch and neither is Hamilton. I haven't really raced with those guys much but I've watched them on TV like everybody else and you know that. I thought we had the NTN Bearing Tundra in the right spot but we came out here with third and I guess that's probably better for the big picture." DID YOU THINK THEY WOULD GET TOGETHER AND YOU MIGHT WIN YOUR FIRST RACE? "The thought crosses your mind but heck, I'm too busy trying to keep Kvapil and all those other cats behind me too. It was a lot of fun." WAS YOUR MINDSET TO STAY OUT OF THE WAY AT THE END OF THE RACE? "I'm not smart enough to stay out the way, probably . I followed Mike for Lord knows how many laps and I about every lap from him. You learn a lot from guys with the experience that they've got. You've got to stay up in there. They're racing each other hard. They're not perfect: they can make a mistake or they can get together so you hope you're right there. We were right there but I looked out the window at Skinner and I think his tailgate was ahead of me when we went across the line. I had the best seat in the house for the finish. It was a lot of fun."
