Hmiel to Start 11th at Atlanta
“I have a bit of an advantage over some other people in the series” remarked Shane Hmiel of racing in Atlanta. The first time Hmiel raced in Atlanta was in the ARCA Series where he finished in the top 5 he also raced here in the NASCAR Busch Series. Comparing Busch cars to the Craftsman Truck Hmiel explained “it’s a totally different feel with the front rear down force these trucks have. It’s been about the most fun racing that I’ve ever had. The engine under the hood has more power than God.” The Earl Small’s Harley Davidson Chevrolet Silverado uses DEI engines. Hmiel referring to his reinstatement into NASCAR “Billy Ballew is such a good person and for the Sponsors to stick by me just shows what good people they are. People have had a lot of faith in me and I’m going to do my best job to do my duty. I’m looking forward to working with kids in middle and high schools to tell them about how much I lost and how hard it was on my friends and family. I am so thankful and appreciative that I had another chance after completing NASCAR’s Drug Program that I’m committed to help others not make the same mistake.” “I was loose but we backed up our practice speeds with a decent qualifying time. I know we’ll have something for them in the race. I have several of my buddies down here and all of our Sponsors mostly from Atlanta; we just need to put something good together for the race. It would sure feel good to pass those Toyotas again in my Chevy.” Shane Hmiel will be starting in the 11th position for Saturday’s EasyCare Vehicle Service Contracts 200 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
