Bodine Shoots from 24th in Easy Care 200 at Atlanta Motor Speedway

Geoffrey Bodine will start the Team EJP Racing Chevrolet Silverado from the outside of the twelfth row for Saturday's Easy Care 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Bodine's lap of 31.580 seconds translates to 175.554 miles per hour on the 1.54 mile quad-oval. David Reutimann won the pole for the event with a lap of 30.984 seconds/179.452 miles per hour.

"It was on the floor the whole way around," Bodine said. "You can't ask for much more than that, but we are off somewhere. We have been working on getting the chassis just right, which is really critical here at Atlanta. With the high speeds, everyone always thinks aerodynamics are the major importance here, and they are, but with all the cornering you do here, you have to have a truck that will handle all day long."

While changes it temperature and sunlight often cause great discrepancies in speeds at some racetracks, Bodine used the evening "Happy Hour" final practice session to continue to fine tune the handling characteristics of his truck.

"The changes in the weather will always affect you, but at Atlanta it's not so bad," Bodine continued. "We won't have any track time at the actual time of day that we race here this weekend, but since the surface is not as subject to the weather as Charlotte or Indianapolis, we can still gain a lot of information in the final practice."

Bodine's fast lap in the final practice session was a 32.258 second/171.864 mile per hour lap. He ranked 30th of the 36 trucks that make up the field for tomorrow's 134-lap event. Bobby Hamilton led the final session of the day with a lap of 30.924 seconds/179.278 miles per hour.

The Easy Care 200 is the second event of the 2004 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season, and can be seen live on Speed Channel starting at 1:00 P.M. eastern time on Saturday March 13. The race can also be heard live on affiliates of the Motor Racing Network nationwide as well as XM Satellite Radio.
