Sometimes, quantity can be just as good as quality.
Such will be the case in “The Motorsports Zone,” the weekly one-hour motorsports racing show that airs this Sunday (and every Sunday) at 10 a.m. on KVET-AM 1300, The Zone and on the internet via www.sportsradio1300.com.
NEXTEL Cup drivers Ricky Craven and Brian Vickers, a rookie, will be heard by MZone listeners, as will Texas driver David Starr, one of the show’s “Favorite Sons.”
“We’re thrilled to be able to have three NASCAR drivers on the show,” said MZone Show host Chuck Licata. “We said during the off-season that we wanted to take this show to the next level, and we think we’ve done that so far. We went live from Daytona for the Daytona 500, and last week we had a conversation with defending Cup champion Matt Kenseth.”
Licata joked, “We’d like to think Matt won last week’s race at Vegas because of some MZone ‘mojo,’ but let’s face it – Kenseth is the hottest driver on the Cup scene right now. Maybe, just maybe, we can give Ricky, Brian and David some good luck this week in Atlanta.”
Craven and Vickers could use a little bit of good luck at this Sunday’s Golden Corral 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. So far this season, Craven – driver of the #32 Tide Chevrolet – has finished 23rd at Daytona, 35th at The Rock and 25th last week at Vegas. Craven will not only talk about the NEXTEL Cup race this weekend in Atlanta but will also comment on one of the most interesting charity fund-raisers during the off-season.
Vickers is expected to be at the forefront of the NEXTEL Cup Raybestos Rookie of the Year award chase. However, some bad luck has plagued the #25 GMAC Financial Services Chevrolet team to this point. Good news for Vickers and his squad, though; Vickers made his then-Winston Cup debut at Atlanta last year and the 20-year old rookie will comment about returning to one of the series’ fastest tracks.
Starr, a resident of Irving, will drive the #75 Spears Manufacturing Chevrolet truck in Saturday’s Easycare Vehicle Service Contracts 200 Craftsman Truck Series race at Atlanta. Starr claimed an amazing 12th place finish at the series opener at Daytona; amazing because the truck suffered some serious front-end damage early in the race, yet Starr and the Spears crew worked hard to grab a top-15 finish.
The MZone Show will also hear from Mary Ann Naumann, founder/owner of the Texas Super Racing Series (TSRS). The series will open its season at San Antonio Speedway this Saturday. “We look to give the results from this week’s races at SAS, and hope to hear from local race fans who attend those races,” Licata added.
