Grassroots Racing Focal Point For Tech Students
05-08-2008 | Team ASE Spotlight
Students participating in ASE Certified Master Automotive Technician programs at community colleges across the country learn just about everything they need to be successful once they get to the professional workplace. At Linn State Technical College in Linn, MO, the program provides a little something extra. "Students in the program help me with my racecar," said Jimmy Brandon, Department Chairperson of the Automotive Technology program at Linn State and the driver of 'Rebel Rouser,' a 1964 Dodge dragster. "Most of the students don't have the money or resources to buy or build a racecar, so they really like working on this one. Anytime I have a project on the racecar, I don't have any problem getting participation from the students." (Linn State Technical College Photo)

Multi-Truck Teams Dominate
05-07-2008 | TruckSeries.com Report
Multiple truck teams were unheard of in 1995 when the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debuted. Fact is, having one raceable truck was tantamount to victory for many entrants. That is ancient history, to say the least. Three different organizations — Kevin Harvick Inc., Bill Davis Racing and Circle Bar Racing — placed seven trucks among the top 10 of the recent O'Reilly Auto Parts 250 at Kansas Speedway.
NFL's Randy Moss Forms NASCAR Program
04-29-2008 | TruckSeries.com Report
New England Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss announced today the formation of Moss Motorsports, LLC with its intended participation to begin in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Moss anticipates that the team will debut at some point in the second half of the 2008 season and run selected races through the conclusion of the year. The partial schedule is a prelude to a full-time campaign in 2009. Sponsors and manufacturer alignments will be announced at a later date. "We don't have all of the details in place just yet, but I am very excited about Moss Motorsports becoming a part of NASCAR," Moss said. "I am by nature a very competitive person and this is an outlet for me to compete at another level. There are some pretty awesome challenges in building a program like this from the ground up, but I am looking forward to it. That's just another aspect of the competition - you want to find the best people available and you're competing with all the other teams out there. We're starting to look at who the best people are and working on getting them to be a part of our team."
Hornaday Dominates Kansas
04-26-2008 | Tom Jensen, TruckSeries.com
Defending series champion Ron Hornaday Jr. scored an utterly dominating victory from the pole in Saturday night's O'Reilly Auto Parts 250 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Kansas Speedway. Hornaday's Camping World No. 33 Chevrolet Silverado survived a record number of cautions to best his KHI teammate Jack Sprague, who finished second in his No. 2 American Commercial Lines Chevy, ahead of the No. 6 Con-way Freight Ford F-150 of rookie Colin Braun, who finished a career-best third. Johnny Benson was fourth in his Toyota. "We raised the bar last year when we won the championship," said Hornaday's crew chief, Rick Ren. "That 33 Camping World Chevrolet fell out of the truck fast yesterday and hasn't slowed since then." (Ronda Greer/NASCAR Photo)
Hornaday Takes Pole in Kansas
04-26-2008 | Tom Jensen, TruckSeries.com
Reigning NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champion Ron Hornaday Jr. claimed the pole for tonight’s O’Reilly Auto Parts 250 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Kansas Speedway. Hornaday nailed his qualifying lap at the 1.5-mile superspeedway, running 170.460 miles per hour in his KHI-owned No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet Silverado. The pole run was Hornaday’s third in five NCTS races this season, all of them coming at intermediate tracks. He now has 16 poles in his NCTS career.
Wildcard Action Heats Up Kansas
04-24-2008 | Tom Jensen, TruckSeries.com
After a season-high four-week break, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series returns to action this weekend at Kansas Speedway for the O'Reilly Auto Parts 250, race No. 5 in the 25-race 2008 schedule. For the first time all season, NCTS points leader and two-time race winner Kyle Busch is skipping this weekend's Truck race to concentrate on the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series festivities at Talladega Superspeedway. Busch's seat in the all-conquering Billy Ballew Racing Toyota Tundra will be filled this weekend by 25-year-old Georgia native Shane Sieg. And while the Truck regulars will still have to deal with what so far has been the most successful vehicle in the series, at least they won't have to deal with the winningest driver in NASCAR. Sieg has competed in 27 races since 2003 with a best finish of eighth at The Milwaukee Mile. He drove Ballew's No. 15 truck three times last season, finishing 10th at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. "With Kyle's schedule at Joe Gibbs Racing this weekend, there was no way he could make the race in Kansas," Ballew said. "We looked at all the scenarios but it just wasn't feasible. Shane has driven for us before and is familiar with the equipment." (VPS Motorimages Photo for TruckSeries.com)
Kansas Could Be Break-Out Race For McCumbee
04-22-2008 | TruckSeries.com Report
Will Chad McCumbee become the fifth under-25 winner of Saturday's O'Reilly Auto Parts 250 at Kansas Speedway? If the 23-year-old McCumbee's recent performances on intermediate tracks are any indication, the answer could be yes. He nearly won last fall in Texas before contact with Jack Sprague knocked McCumbee from the lead on a green-white-checker restart. McCumbee has led two of the three most recent races on 1.5-mile speedways including last month's stop at Atlanta Motor Speedway where the Supply, N.C., native finished a career-best fifth. He qualified on the front row at Texas Motor Speedway and Atlanta. (VPS Motorimages)
Mike Skinner Diary: Toyota Pro/Celeb Finale
04-21-2008 | TruckSeries.com Report
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series star and Red Bull Camry driver Mike Skinner is the defending champion of the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race and he was back to defend his title again in '08. The race was ran in conjunction with the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Indy car race and has helped raise more than $1.6 million for local children's charities in Southern California.
"The race today was really, really good. I got a great start and started catching the back of the celebrity field in the first three or four laps. I never really expected to catch the front of the field without a caution, so I was pretty surprised that we eventually made our way up there. It was kind of neat. Going in, the professionals were about three seconds a lap faster, so over a 10-lap race while going through traffic, I knew it was going to be tough to get up there." - Mike Skinner (Photo courtesy of Toyota Motorsports)
